The Red Hot Chili Peppers paid tribute to the late Taylor Hawkins when they received a major award at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night.

While winning the Worldwide Great Award, Chad Smith said, “There’s another musical icon, global icon – his name is my brother Taylor Hawkins.” The family of Taylor is who I would like to dedicate this to. He is always missed, but I adore them. Hawk, soar high. Go for it, dude.

During their performance, the band also had Hawkins’ name displayed on a drum set, in the form of a flying hawk.

A few months after Hawkins’ unexpected death, his wife, Alison Hawkins, thanked his devoted followers in a public statement.

For the outpouring of love each and every one of the Foo Fighters community and Taylor’s fans has showed for our darling Taylor, she expressed her gratitude and appreciation on Instagram.
“My family and I am so grateful for your thoughtfulness at this time of terrible sadness,” you wrote.
Taylor’s “endearing spirit and great love of music” would endure forever, according to Alison, “via the partnerships he so enjoyed having with other musicians and the repertoire of songs he contributed to and created,” she wrote in the closing of her moving letter.
The Foo Fighters will pay tribute to Taylor with two special shows in September, the Hawkins family has revealed.
