Jets assistant Miles Austin has been suspended

According to a source who spoke to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Rich Cimini, Miles Austin, the wide receivers coach for the New York Jets, has been suspended for at least a year for breaking the NFL’s gambling rules.

Austin has been suspended and is contesting the decision, the NFL announced in a statement on Friday.

The NFL stated in its statement that it would not comment further until the appeal’s outcome.

Austin must complete any suspension before requesting reinstatement, an ESPN source said.
According to a source who spoke to ESPN, the NFL has been looking into Austin for some time after learning that he had been wagering on sports, not on NFL or college football games, in violation of NFL personnel gambling rules.

William P. Deni Jr., Austin’s lawyer, and the agent confirmed to numerous media sources that Austin did not bet on NFL games.

Deni claims that Miles Austin was penalized by the NFL for utilizing a valid mobile account to place bets on table games and professional sports that weren’t in the NFL. Miles did not bet on an NFL game in violation of the NFL’s gambling policy for personnel. He has fully cooperated with the NFL’s investigators. He’s contesting the suspension.”

All coaches are barred from participating in any kind of sports gambling, not just football, in accordance with the NFL’s gambling policy.

The policy stipulates that “All NFL Personnel other than Players are further prohibited from placing, soliciting, or facilitating bets on any other professional (e.g., NBA, MLB, NHL, PGA, USTA, MLS), college (e.g., NCAA basketball), international (e.g., World Baseball Classic, World Cup), or Olympic sports competition, tournament, or event.”

While at the team’s facility, Austin had also been placing online wagers, which is also prohibited by NFL regulations.
A source told ESPN that the league has monitored his online gambling behavior.

Since Tuesday, Austin hasn’t visited the Jets’ facility, a source told ESPN.

From 2006 until 2015, Austin played in the NFL, primarily for the Dallas Cowboys. He began his career as an undrafted free agent and concluded with 361 receptions for 5,273 yards. He was given two Pro Bowl selections.

The San Francisco 49ers hired Austin, 38, as an offensive quality control coach in 2019. He joined the Jets’ coaching staff in 2021 under Robert Saleh.

Who is Miles Austin?

Miles Jonathon Austin III, a former wide receiver and current wide receivers coach for the New York Jets of the National Football League, was born on June 30, 1984. (NFL).

Prior to this, he spent most of his ten seasons playing in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys. Austin played college football for Monmouth, where he established the mark for most receiving yards at the institution.

Austin played for the Dallas Cowboys for eight seasons and was selected to two Pro Bowls after being signed as an undrafted free agent by the team in 2006. His best season came in 2009 when he set a Cowboys single-game receiving yards record and led the National Football Conference (NFC) in receiving yards.

After initially joining the New York Jets in 2021 as a member of Robert Saleh’s inaugural coaching staff, MILES AUSTIN III is back for his second campaign as the wide receivers coach. Austin, a former wide receiver who made the Pro Bowl and played 10 seasons in the NFL, is now in his third season coaching in the league after serving as a scout for the previous two.

Austin managed a wide receiver group in his first season with the Jets in 2021 that changed during the season due to injuries to their top three receivers, Corey Davis, Elijah Moore, and Jamison Crowder. Five different receivers caught 25 or more passes, making them the only team in the league in 2021 due to each player being limited to 12 or fewer games, and four of them recorded multiple touchdown receptions.
