Turkey calls the Istanbul: Turkish authorities report that an explosion on Istanbul’s busiest commercial thoroughfare resulted in at least six deaths and 81 injuries.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan referred to the explosion that took place on Istiklal Avenue on Sunday as an attack and vowed to find those responsible.

The perpetrators of the crime on Istiklal Avenue will receive the punishment they merit, he declared, assuring his countrymen.

The pertinent governmental agencies are still investigating who carried out this treacherous attack and the organizations responsible. No immediate defense or acknowledgment of guilt was offered.


Hasan Ozsut, the owner of the shop, said he observed several people running and four people laying on the ground. He estimated that he was up to 500 yards away from the explosion.

He answered, “God knows who’s going to be in charge this time.” Ozsut also expressed worry about the impact the explosion might have on Turkey’s end-of-year tourism.

Attacks have occurred in Istanbul before. On New Year’s Day of 2017, a shooter entered a nightclub and killed 39 people inside. Almost 80 additional people also suffered injuries.

In 2003, a series of truck-based suicide attacks occurred at four distinct locations throughout the city.
In a statement sent by the White House press secretary, the United States condemned the explosion and called it a violent act.

In the statement, press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre remarked, “We stand shoulder to shoulder with our NATO Ally.” Five prosecutors have been entrusted with the investigation into the incident, according to the state-run Anadolu news agency.

Internet videos that depict bodies on the street. A temporary ban on reporting on the incident has been imposed by Turkey’s media watchdog, banning broadcasters from displaying footage of the explosion or its aftermath.

The Supreme Council of Radio and Television has previously imposed such restrictions following attacks and accidents.
