According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, Justin Verlander will sign a two-year, $86 million contract with the New York Mets.

There is a third-year vesting option included in the agreement.

Alongside his former Detroit Tigers teammate Max Scherzer, Verlander, 39, will head up the New York rotation

While Verlander will be 40, Scherzer will pitch in his 39th season.

While the Mets rotation is undoubtedly loaded with talent

it's unwise to count on Verlander and Scherzer to pitch 350–400 innings each.
