Eddie Murphy gave a speech at the Golden Globes on Tuesday night in which he accepted the Cecil B. DeMille Award and offered some advice for aspiring industry workers. When around Will Smith, use caution.
“I want to let you know that there is a clear pattern that you can follow to attain success, prosperity, longevity, and peace of mind,” Murphy said as he wrapped up his speech. I’ve acted according to it all throughout my professional life. It’s simple: pay your taxes, take care of business, and avoid mentioning Will Smith’s wife in conversation.
The remark, which obviously made reference to the infamous Oscars incident from last year when Smith smacked comedian Chris Rock for making a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s alopecia, caused the audience to break out in ecstatic, shocked laughter.
The Cecil B. DeMille award, which has been given to exceptional actors and directors in the entertainment sector since 1952, was presented to Murphy by Tracy Morgan and Jamie Lee Curtis. In the original “Coming to America” and its 2021 sequel, Murphy co-starred with Morgan, and he also worked with Curtis on the 1983 movie “Trading Places.”
Murphy previously won the Golden Globe in 2007 for his portrayal of “Dream girls,” for which he was also nominated for an Oscar. He had previously had six Golden Globe nominations. In addition, he received three Grammy nominations, five Emmy nominations, and won the award in 2020 for his work as “Saturday Night Live” host. He received the Grammy award for best comedy recording in 1984.
Murphy’s most well-known comedies include “Norbit,” “The Nutty Professor,” “Daddy Day Care,” and “Trading Places,” as well as popular television programs including “Coming to America,” “Beverly Hills Cop,” and “Doctor Dolittle.”
Murphy has agreed to a three-picture, first-look deal with Amazon Studios, allowing him to star in a variety of new motion pictures in the future years. The actress will co-star with Sam Jay, Nia Long, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Lauren London, and Jonah Hill in the movie “You People,” which will be directed by Kenya Barris and written by him and Lauren London.
Eddie Murphy slaps the audience at the Golden Globes.
The Slap has been introduced into 2023 by Eddie Murphy. The well-known actor shared some advice for aspiring professionals in the field during his acceptance speech for the Cecil B. DeMille Award at tonight’s Golden Globes presentation.
I want to let you know that there is a clear pattern that you may follow to achieve success, prosperity, longevity, and peace of mind, he said at the outset. I’ve acted according to it all throughout my professional life.
It is extremely easy. Pay your taxes, take care of business, and refrain from mentioning Will Smith’s wife in public. Although the obscenity was bleeped out, everyone understood what he said. After memorably hitting Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars after a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s alopecia, Smith gave the comic that final piece of advice.
The Slap Heard Around the World inspired thousands of articles and weeks of grueling discussion. Let’s hope Murphy didn’t start a round of Slap Discourse Part 133197 as he seems to take this chance to show his support for Smith (?). Let’s hope that the New Year brings us its own drama to binge watch like The Slap.
