Virat Kohli, the Indian cricketer, returned to the field with the One Day International (ODI) series against Sri Lanka. The first ODI of the three-match series between Team India and Dasun Shanaka-led Sri Lanka is underway at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.

Kohli has now equaled batting superstar Sachin Tendulkar’s record in the ODI format played at home after ending his ODI century drought of over 1214 days with a century.

Tendulkar has the most hundreds (20) in one-day international cricket at home. Ex-India captain Kohli equaled the record with a century in today’s match. Kohli will need to hit another triple-digit figure in the upcoming ODI match to overtake Tendulkar’s record.

While Sachin and Kohli both have 20 ODI hundreds at home, their overall century totals are 49 and 45, respectively.

Sachin Tendulkar scored 20 ODI centuries at home in 164 matches throughout his reign. Kohli, on the other hand, has scored 20 tonnes in 102 ODIs at home. He needs to score 80 more runs to join the list of all-time ODI run scorers.

Kohli ranks fifth all-time behind Kumar Sangakkara, Ricky Ponting, Sanath Jayasuriya, and Mahela Jayawardene.

Following his knock, Kohli discussed a range of topics, including his time in the middle and his food during the innings break.

“I had something of a rest, and a couple of practice sessions coming into this game, so I was fresh after the Bangladesh tour. I couldn’t wait for the regular season to start. “Thanks to the openers, I was able to get into the game, and I tried to keep my strike rate under control.”

“I was thrilled to be able to maintain the tempo, and we finished with 370,” Kohli continued.
Kohli also mentioned the two lifelines he received during his innings when Sri Lanka dropped his catches.
“I’d take those (missed opportunities) over anything. Luck is important, and you should thank God on such nights. I’m well aware that these evenings are crucial.

I’m grateful that I made the most of the opportunities that came my way. “I assisted the squad in obtaining 20 additional runs instead of 350,” he explained.

Before signing off, the former India skipper was asked what kept him going in the innings after batting in the middle for so long without breaking a sweat. “I am very conscious of what I eat; nutrition is the most important thing at this age,” he answered. This keeps me in good shape. That allows me to give my all to the squad.”
