Detail about Tejasvi Surya
On December 10 of last year, Tejasvi Surya, national president of the BJP Yuva Morcha and the party’s representative from Bengaluru South, is accused of opening the emergency evacuation door of an IndiGo aircraft before to takeoff.
Following some media coverage of the incident, the airline issued a statement on Tuesday, more than a month after it occurred. Surya was included in the reports, however IndiGo left no names out of its statement.
When boarding Flight 6E 7339 from Chennai to Tiruchirapalli on December 10, 2022, a passenger unintentionally unlocked the emergency exit. The traveller instantly expressed regret for the behaviour.
The event was reported in accordance with SOPs, and the aircraft underwent necessary engineering inspections, which caused a delay in the flight’s departure, according to the airline.
However, sources at the airline have confirmed that it was Surya, who was en route with K Annamalai, the president of the BJP in Tamil Nadu.
The departure time for the flight was 10.05 am. Surya and Annamalai, according to sources, were seated close to the emergency exit door. Surya reportedly opened the emergency exit door while the flight staff was informing passengers of the safety procedure.
According to reports, the emergency exit door opened while the aircraft was taxiing for takeoff. The passengers disembarked in accordance with protocol, and the plane didn’t take off until after a careful inspection. Finally, the flight departed the Chennai airport at 12:27 and touched down in Tiruchirapalli at 1:23.
In response to a request for comment, Surya’s office stated that he was in New Delhi for the BJP’s national executive meeting. Sources claim that Surya sent the airline a letter of apologies. An apology note has a standard format, and the writer filled it out and signed it after the incident, according to a source.
The incident was confirmed by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), who described it as a “mistake”. “The incident was properly reported. It appears that a passenger unintentionally opened the RH (right hand) emergency exit while the aeroplane was on the ground.
The crew took note, and as a result, all necessary airworthiness procedures were completed before the aircraft was released for takeoff, including the installation of the door and a pressurisation check.
No safety was jeopardised, according to the authority.
However, a source at the Chennai office of the Airports Authority of India claimed that the airline had not told them about the event. “We were not notified when the incident occurred, and no report was filed in this regard,” the official claimed.
DMK leader B T Arasakumar, who was also on board, confirmed that the aircraft was delayed in an interview with The Indian Express but said he was unaware of the specifics. “The air hostess informed us that there was a technical problem and that everyone had to leave the plane before takeoff. Engineers and security staff began inspecting the aeroplane as we were all driven back to the terminal, he claimed.
