Michael Shannon, Barbie Ferreira, Kiersey Clemons to Star in Drag King Drama

The Young King,” a drag king comedic drama, will star Michael Shannon, Kiersey Clemons, and Barbie Ferreira.

Larin Sullivan (“Anatomy: Soul”), who also wrote the story for the movie, makes his feature directorial debut. Kim Bailey and Isabel Marden of Corporate Witchcraft are also producing it, in addition to Kiersey Clemons.

Executive music producer Justin Tranter (“Happiest Season”) will write original music for the movie and is a Grammy and Golden Globe-nominated songwriter.

Early 2023 will see the start of filming in Las Vegas. The project will be presented to investors at the next American Film Market by Mister Smith Entertainment, with WME Independent handling North American rights.

Jules, a want to be drag king played by Kiersey-Clemons, travels to Las Vegas to meet up with her father Mick (Shannon) after a long separation and to perform in the biggest drag king revue in the country.

Mick, a legendary gambler and part-time clown for kids’ parties, is less than glad to see his daughter “Julia” acting masculinely by wearing clothes and going after Ronnie (Ferreira), the strong dancer he frequently hangs out with.

Jules and Mick’s worlds collide over an incredible weekend.
An in-depth exploration of a planet and a protagonist that hasn’t previously been shown on the big screen is found in “The Young King.” GLAAD, Sundance Institute, IFP’s Project Forum, Tribeca Film Institute, and Inside Out Toronto have all supported the project.

The limited series “George and Tammy” on the Paramount Network will feature Shannon opposite Jessica Chastain. Additionally, he just finished shooting “Eric LaRue,” a movie based on the same-named Brett Neveu play.
