“Coach Prime will not only energize our fan base, but I am convinced that he can restore national prominence to our program while coaching a team of great caliber and high character,” said the coach.
Sanders excelled both on and off the field while attending Jackson State.

He was a fervent supporter of more recognition and parity for all historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs). Sanders advocated for opportunities to showcase the skill and culture of HBCUs, drawing attention to them on a national scale.

Sanders hosted a Pro Day in March 2022 with athletes from four other Mississippi institutions to give them a stage in front of 22 NFL teams and the Canadian Football League. The first HBCU to have its spring football game broadcast live on ESPNU nationally was Jackson State in April 2022.

According to CU Boulder Chancellor Philip DiStefano, “Deion Sanders coach’s prestige transcends sports, and his hire enhances not only the football program but the university as a whole.” “I’m glad Deion decided to become a part of our Buffalo family, and I salute Rick George for making such a wise decision.

I’m looking forward to standing shoulder to shoulder with our students, supporters, and fans next fall to support “Coach Prime” and our student-athletes in this exciting new chapter in Colorado football’s lengthy, illustrious past.

The Buffaloes’ first game under Sanders as head coach will take place against TCU on September 2nd. TCU is presently third in the College Football Playoff standings. His first home games will take place against longtime rival Nebraska on September 9 and will be followed the following Saturday by Colorado State, another local rival.

The 100th season of CU’s famous Folsom Field begins with those two rivals.

Later this month, SMAC Productions’ “Coach Prime” docuseries will make its Prime Video debut. It will cover Coach Prime’s arrival in Colorado as well as Jackson State’s perfect season.
